Our History

Incorporated in August 1997, Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd is the sole importer and distributor for Halal food & pharmaceutical grade gelatine & Halal empty hard gelatine capsules for Malaysia and South East Asia markets. It is today a leading brand of Halal gelatine ingredients for food and pharmaceutical manufacturers in Malaysia.

Since then, Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd has broaden its business activities from trading to distributing and manufacturing Halal alternative products through its company subsidiaries namely, Halagel Distributor Sdn. Bhd, Halagel Plant (M) Sdn Bhd and Halagel Products Sdn Bhd.

The huge population of Muslims globally has led to the pressing need to ensure food production worldwide meets the stringent halal requirements. More than 50% of the total world production of gelatin is widely used in the manufacture of foods.

Noting this fact and with the support and aspiration of the Malaysian government in its bid to become an International Halal Food Center, the company has embarked on an extensive research in the production of Halal gelatin, Halal empty hard gelatin capsules and Halal Softgels using only confirmed halal sources to fulfill the niche market in South East Asia and worldwide.

Dato' Seri Talaat Bin Husain

Dato’ Seri Talaat obtained Bachelor Of Social Sciences from University Of Science Malaysia and later Masters in Professional Studies from Cornell University, USA. He has also attended Senior Executive Program, London Business School And Advanced Management Program, Harvard Business School besides having attended several Senior Management Programs whilst in the government service.

He joined the administrative and diplomatic service in 1973 and served the government for 34 years in various capacities. He had served at state and federal levels, amongst others in the Prime Minister’s department, National Institute of Public Administration, Ministry of Education bef ore being appointed as Secretary-General Ministry of Youth and Sports and prior to retirement as Secretary-General Ministry Of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. During his service, he had also held the positions of Chief Administrator, National Palace and Mayor of Ipoh City.

He had also served as Chairman, Company Commission of Malaysia, Board Member of Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation And Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

Presently, he sits on the boards of Shell Refining Company Berhad, Silverbird Group Berhad and Konsortium Logistik Berhad besides holding positions of Chairman on several private limited companies. He is also a board member of Outward Bound Trust of Malaysia.

Mohamad Yakob Bin Munshi Deen

Mr. Mohamad Yakob obtained Bachelor of Agricultural Science from University Pertanian Malaysia in 1986. He worked as an Assistant Manager at Golden Hope Plantation and later with CIBA Geigy (M) Sdn Bhd as a Medical representative for northern region. He was awarded as The Best Sales Representative based on his excellence sales performance.

During this period, he discovered that most empty hard gelatin capsules used in Malaysia is of non halal sources. He pursued the search for Halal capsules and halal gelatin and this lead him to Pakistan. From there, he started the business of importing these products in 1997 to Malaysia and its neighboring countries. Until today, Pakistan is the only halal gelatin manufacturer in the world, handled and processed by Muslims and produced 100% halal gelatin from halal bovine sources.

Mohamad Yakob has bring Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd to its 11th year of operation and has expanded the business from importing and distributing to manufacturing of Halal Alternative Products.
